Hello and welcome to Monday’s Need to Hear. Three tracks that you really need to hear ASAP. Slight mixed bag today, with the rather new poppy track from Jamie XX. A warming and smooth track from Swedish artist Lisa Alma. And also the Lynch-esque new track from Los Angele’s Mexico City Blondes. Remember to follow us on Twitter so you never miss another Need to Hear.
Jamie XX – Loud Places
Today’s three tracks wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the brand new Jamie XX single ‘Loud Places’, which broke at the end of last week. Taken from his forthcoming solo album ‘In Colour’. A collaboration with fellow XX bandmate Romy Madley Croft. With two thirds of The XX at the helm we might have expected something more minimal. But ‘Loud Places’ isn’t minimal. while the underlying contemplative beds remain. The introduction of a vocal, and the use of numerous samples pushes ‘Loud Places’ into the full blown pop track arena. Which could signal an interesting turn of pace for Jamie’s upcoming album.

Lisa Alma – Fine
New track from Danish singer Lisa Alma. ‘Fine’ is taken from her new album ‘Sweater’, which is rather apt, as this track is a total warmer. Slick, Smooth vocals, combine with dense synth beds perfectly to create a track that almost envelops you. The album ‘Sweater’ is released April 21st with ‘Fine’ released tomorrow March 31.
Sounds Like : Saint Etienne, The XX
Mexico City Blondes – Watery Dreams
A demure new indie pop track from California’s Mexico City Blondes. Layering up a somber vocal, with some rather Lynch-ian creeping synths, and a melody that sounds like it’s being played on an electric organ. The track finally breaks towards the end into an anthemic high, before falling back into a somber pop melody.
Sounds Like : Portishead, Lyyke Li
